WordPress Guru Requirements:
The following capabilities are what we are looking for:
- Install WordPress – have working knowledge of installations both through the hosting account (using one-click installer like Fantastico) and via FTP (for those hosts that do not offer one-click installs)
- Customize WP settings using our detailed step-by-step guide (if you can read, you can follow these directions)
- Upload themes and plugins via FTP
- Search and install plugins using the automatic plugin installer built into WP 2.7 and higher
- Simple WP theme customization – changes to widths and colors, add images etc
- Some HTML knowledge
- Basic CSS knowledge – tied to being able to do simple WP theme customizations
- Understanding of how to place code into WP widgets – necessary for inserting buttons, ads, other items that use code from other sources
The following capabilities are not a must but may increase the demand for your services:
- Intermediate to advanced WP theme customizations – create new sections (magazine-style layout, sidebars, widget areas, sectioned headers/footers, etc.), create custom page templates
- Some knowledge of PHP – ability to understand where a section of code begins and ends; ability to manipulate/create lines of php coding to make the blog function in a specific manner; ability to locate and remove unwanted coding
- Intermediate to advanced CSS knowledge – ability to create and style your own selector ids and classes as needed; advanced styling techniques
- Understanding of how to integrate code directly into theme files – for polls, audio, and other similar items
- Newsletter setup and integration – we’ve dealt with Aweber, Constant Contact, iContact, GetResponse, to name a few
- Feedburner setup and integration
- Familiarity with Poll Daddy – several clients have used their services in the past and requested us to get the code from Poll Daddy and integrate it into their blog
- Ability to find and fix coding that is creating errors – clients sometimes come to us to fix problems we did not create
- Ability to customize WP plugin files to add or remove functionality
